About

On Saturday November 22nd, we’re off to Essex for a SUP Safari on The Stort Navigation which starts at Bishop’s Stortford and meets the Lee Navigation in Hoddesdon.

Join us for a 15KM round trip on the canalised River Stort from Harlow to Sawbridgeworth and back. We’ll portage ten locks in total on our journey along this surprisingly serene stretch and enjoy a half-way stop at The Shed Coffee House, set among the old malting houses and warehouses at The Maltings.

  • For competent paddlers who are able to self rescue and fit to paddle 15KM with 10 lock portages.
  • A relaxed and sociable SUP Safari. Planned, risk assessed and led by Paddle UK qualified Paddle Sport Leaders.
  • You’ll need your own paddle board, paddle, pump, QR waist leash and buoyancy aid.
  • Please wear quick drying clothing and bring a change of clothes and a towel.
  • A dry bag with shoulder straps would also be a good idea and footwear for the lock portages.
  • Water and snacks – we plan to stop halfway at The Shed Coffee House but in case we don’t make it that far, please eat breakfast and bring snacks to ensure you have the energy to paddle and portage!
  • No specialist clothing is required. In warm weather, ordinary gym gear will be fine (shorts/leggings/T-shirt), with old trainers or water shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.
  • In colder weather, a wetsuit or drysuit would be advisory. Water/windproof layers and a hat and gloves are always a good idea too.
