Spring has come so it’s off on Safari we go. This is the time before we had set up our other Paddle Bases. We, the 3 and then 4 headed upstream along the Wey Navigation from New Haw Lock towards the junction with the top of the Basingstoke Canal.

After realising that my fin bolt was missing, Coco volunteered to paddle the Red 11’3 fin-less. Eventually, we were rescued, when we were joined by Melenie Pyndiah, who had a spare. Lesson learned.
The start of the Basingstoke Canal is very picturesque, however, there are 8 locks to port round before you get to a love 5+ mile stretch of flat water all the way into Woking. Lunch at the Lightbox and then home.
When we got back to New Haw Lock, who should we bump into, but none other than John McFadzean of Sup the World fame.
