About
Join us for a relaxed and sociable round-trip SUP Safari on the Grand Union Canal from Rickmansworth towards Denham and back. This scenic route through the Colne Valley takes in both rural countryside with postcard-perfect views and unique abandoned industrial sites.
We’ll paddle for approximately 2 hours out and 2 hours back (portaging 5 or 6 locks) each way. Distance and speed will be determined by the group (likely 15-20KM). Led and risk assessed by a Paddle UK qualified and insured Paddlesport Leader. This trip is suitable for all abilities – with informal tips and coaching along the way.
- For competent paddlers who are able to self rescue. and fit to paddle for approximately four hours and portage 10-12 locks.
- A relaxed and sociable SUP Safari on the Grand Union Canal. Planned, risk assessed and led by Paddle UK qualified Paddle Sport Leaders.
- You’ll need your own paddle board, paddle, pump, QR waist leash and buoyancy aid. *Some equipment is available to hire – this needs to be pre-booked by emailing paddle@dpbclub.co or calling 07547917643 before booking onto this Safari.*
- Please wear quick drying clothing and bring a change of clothes and a towel.
- A dry bag with shoulder straps would also be a good idea and footwear for the launch and multiple lock portages.
- Water and snacks – we’ll likely stop at a café or pub during the paddle but please bring some supplies just in case!
- No specialist clothing is required. In warm weather, ordinary gym gear will be fine (shorts/leggings/T-shirt), with old trainers or water shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.
- In colder weather, a wetsuit or drysuit would be advisory. Water/windproof layers and a hat and gloves are always a good idea too.
