This is a Public Group 90 minute Beginner Lesson to give people new to Paddle Boarding an introduction to the sport. The lesson takes part on a beautiful stretch of the non-tidal River Thames and covers safety and rules of the river as well as the technical aspects of paddle boarding. All equipment is provided or you can use your own if you have it. Led by Paddle UK qualified & insured instructors.

£55 per person.

A minimum of 2 people is required for these lessons to run. If minimum numbers are not reached we will reschedule you onto an acceptable alternative date/time – if you have a friend who can book with you, your chosen session will be guaranteed to run (safe river condition dependent).

  • Participants must be 12 years old or above
  • Under 18’s must be accompanied by a participating adult parent/guardian on the water.
  • No specialist clothing is required. In warm weather, ordinary gym gear will be fine (shorts/leggings/T-shirt/sweatshirt), with old sandals or trainers you don’t mind getting wet. Or you can get cheap neoprene wet shoes from most large supermarkets.
  • In colder weather, a wetsuit or drysuit would be advisory.
  • Always bring a towel and a change of clothes just in case you go in during the paddle boarding session.
  • A dry bag is a good idea, or you can put small items in the instructor’s dry bag.
  • Water, snack, hat and sunscreen if hot.
  • All equipment is provided or you can use your own board if you have one.

The group will start at the base and under the instruction of our Paddle UK qualified & insured instructor will be taught about the equipment and fitted with buoyancy aids. The session will cover water safety and river etiquette. The coach will teach the group how to safely launch, paddle, turn, stop, stand up on the board and exit the river. All of this will then be put into practice on a beautiful stretch of the non-tidal River Thames near to Hampton Court Palace. There’s absolutely no pressure to stand or self-rescue if you don’t want to! The aim is to relax, have fun, learn and explore safely whilst meeting new people.
