About
A relaxed and sociable 16KM out and back paddle on the River Great Stour in Kent from Grove Ferry. This picturesque route features a gentle, winding stretch of river that passes through beautiful countryside and the Stodmarsh National Nature Reserve. Expect lush green banks, reed beds and an abundance of wildlife. Keep quiet and you might see a water vole, or a heron half-hidden in the reeds.
We’ll explore the Grove Ferry Canoe Trail, paddling for 4 hours at a relaxed pace before heading back to the pub for food and drinks together.
Led and risk assessed by Qualified and insured Paddlesport Leaders. Suitable for all abilities.
- For competent paddlers who are able to self rescue and fit to paddle either kneeling or standing for about 4 hours (with plenty of stops).
- A relaxed and sociable SUP Safari on the River Great Stour. Planned, risk assessed and led by Paddle UK qualified Paddle Sport Leaders.
- You’ll need your own paddle board, paddle, pump, QR waist leash and buoyancy aid. *Some equipment is available to hire – this needs to be pre-booked by emailing paddle@dpbclub.co or calling 07547917643 before booking onto this Safari.*
- Please wear quick drying clothing and bring a change of clothes and a towel.
- A dry bag would also be a good idea and footwear for the launch.
- Water and snacks – we’ve got a table booked at the pub for food & drinks after the paddle.
- No specialist clothing is required. In warm weather, ordinary gym gear will be fine (shorts/leggings/T-shirt), with old trainers or water shoes that you don’t mind getting wet.
- In colder weather, a wetsuit or drysuit would be advisory. Water/windproof layers and a hat and gloves are always a good idea too.
Parking
Paid parking – £3.30 per day (PayByPhone or Ringo). Please park respectfully.
Toilets & Changing
Public toilets at the launch site.
